Cheep Cheeps,[1] sometimes formatted as Cheep-Cheeps,[2] and generically named fish,[3] are underwater fish enemies that appear in several The Legend of Zelda games, the first one being The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening. They originate from the Mario franchise. They mainly attack by swimming back and forth.
History
The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening / The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening DX
Cheep-Sheeps.[4][5] first appear in The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening and The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening DX. Cheep-Sheeps only appear in side-scrolling, subterranean areas, including dungeons. Cheep-Sheeps only swim back and forth and do not actively target Link. He can defeat a Cheep-Sheep with a single hit from his sword or another weapon. If hit by a Cheep-Sheep, Link loses half a heart of his health. They appear in the underwater passages of Angler's Tunnel and Catfish's Maw. If Link is outside the water, a Cheep-Sheep sometimes jumps up at him. While it does this, Link can use the Roc's Feather to jump on the Cheep-Sheep and defeat it.
The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Season / The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages
Cheep Cheeps also appear in The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons and The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages. They act the same as in Link's Awakening, although Link can no longer defeat Cheep Cheeps by jumping on them.
The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Adventures
Cheep Cheeps reappear in The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Adventures. A giant variant of Cheep Cheep also appears in the game which, unlike normal ones, charges at players.
