Dharkstare
First appearance The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds (2013)
Counterpart(s) Kholdstare

Dharkstare is the boss of the Ice Ruins in The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds, replacing Kholdstare of the Ice Palace in The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past. Unlike the cloudlike Kholdstare, Dharkstare appears as a mass of moist black tendrils. Dharkstare is fought in an ice-covered hexagonal ring-shaped arena suspended underneath the ruins.

At the beginning of the battle, Dharkstare will teleport in through a dark aura and encase itself in ice while spawning three icy auras it spins around itself. It has three attacks, the first of which is simply darting through the air around the arena. The second involves sending its auras outwards into a triangle shape, which blinks briefly before freezing everything caught inside. The final attack is for it to spin rapidly as the auras grow larger before sending all three consecutively at Link. To attack Dharkstare, Link needs to melt the ice around it using his Fire Rod while avoiding its attacks. Once the ice is gone, Dharkstare will only be able to flop helplessly around the arena while Link can attack it. Eventually, it will teleport into darkness, begin floating again, and regrow its ice shield. After enough damage, it becomes angry, turning purple with a red eye, and gains three more auras, allowing it to make two consecutive triangles. However, continuing the same attack pattern against it defeats it, leaving behind a Heart Container and opening a bridge to Rosso's painting.
