Moldolas[1], also known as Fire Snakes[2], Firewinders[3], and Winders[4], are a recurring invincible enemy or obstacle in the The Legend of Zelda franchise. They appear as a chain of dangerous spheres of fire or electricity that move around walls.

History[edit]

The Legend of Zelda series[edit]

The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past[edit]

In The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, Fire Snakes debut as a common Dark World dungeon hazard, first appearing in the Swamp Palace. They appear as chains of five orange Sparks, and tend to move quickly along walls, occasionally going straight off the sides of outward corners and changing direction at inward ones.

The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap[edit]

In The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap, Firewinders act essentially the same as before, though they no longer share graphics with Sparks. The fireballs are now a double-barred spiral shape. They first appear in the Temple of Droplets.

The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass[edit]

In The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass, Winders move much slower and are electric instead of fiery. They are made of a chain of three electric spheres with a black center surrounded by red and green circles, and now follow walls more accurately than before. They first appear in the Temple of Courage.

The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks[edit]

In The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks, Moldolas appear mostly as they do in Phantom Hourglass, initially appearing in the Fire Temple. The "head" is now larger than the following two segments and they move more smoothly around corners, however. They are used by the player to defeat the Heatoise.

The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds[edit]

In The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds, a single fiery Moldola appears in the Dark Palace. The maze it is in is also dark, with it providing light. For the most part, it acts like the ones in A Link to the Past, though it is slower and the fireballs are smaller. It is one of the only hazards to not be given any name in the English guide.

BS Zelda no Densetsu: Inishie no Sekiban[edit]

In BS Zelda no Densetsu: Inishie no Sekiban, Fire Snakes appear as they do in A Link to the Past, first appearing in the dungeon portion of the Lost Woods, which is the fourth dungeon.
