The Fairy Ocarina is a brown ocarina and an item that appears in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time and its Nintendo 3DS remake, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D. Saria gives this item as a gift to Link when he first leaves Kokiri Forest, as a reminder of her. When Link obtains the Ocarina of Time in the moat outside Hyrule, the Fairy Ocarina is replaced with it for the rest of the game.

In the game, the Fairy Ocarina functions exactly the same as the Ocarina of Time, although it is only intended for a brief part of Link's adventure. In the coding, the only difference between the two is that the Ocarina of Time has an event flag for learning the Song of Time, which is required to open the Door of Time and progress normally.

In the manga adaptation, Link drops the Fairy Ocarina when he encounters Ganondorf, who takes it. Later, Ganondorf realizes that the instrument he took is not the Ocarina of Time, and he destroys it.

In Hyrule Warriors and Hyrule Warriors Legends, the Fairy Ocarina is the basic type of Ocarina, though this is available in the former via a download code from the latter or the Legends Character Pack.

Trivia[edit]

Early screenshot of the Fairy Ocarina being assigned to adult Link's inventory
  • In a few early screenshots of The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask, the Fairy Ocarina is shown to be assigned to one of the C-buttons. The item itself still exists as unused in the game's data, and with the use of a cheating device, the Fairy Ocarina can be added to Link's inventory. However, when used it functions the same as the Pictograph Box.
  • Additionally, a pre-release screenshot of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time shows Link equipped with the Fairy Ocarina as an adult.
