Wallets are a type of bag where Link holds his collected rupees in some of The Legend of Zelda games. Wallets first appear in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. In most appearances, Link can complete a sidequest to obtain a larger and higher-capacity wallet than the previous one. The number of rupees are displayed on-screen, regardless of whether a wallet also appears in the game.

Appearances[edit]

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time / The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask[edit]

In The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time and The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask, Link starts with the Child's Wallet, which holds up to 99 rupees. In both games, there are two upgrades: the Adult Wallet and the Giant Wallet, which carry up to 200 and 500 rupees respectively.

In The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D and The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask 3D, the Adult Wallet and Giant Wallet are respectively designed after the two wallet upgrades from The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker.

The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker[edit]

Two wallet upgrades are also featured in The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker. The first wallet holds up to 200 Rupees (or 500 rupees in The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD). The first wallet upgrade allows Link to carry up to 1,000 Rupees, and is obtained from a Great Fairy named Fortune Goddess in the Fairy Woods of Outset Island. The second wallet upgrade is obtained at Northern Fairy Island by another Great Fairy, and it allows Link to carry up to 5,000 rupees. In the Nintendo GameCube version, the first wallet upgrade is required to pay for the Triforce Charts, which Tingle sells for 398 Rupees apiece.

A blue rupee is on the first wallet upgrade, and a red rupee is on the second wallet upgrade. Due to its capacity, the latter wallet is wider than the former.

The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap[edit]

The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap is the first handheld game to have wallet upgrades, and it is first game overall with three wallet upgrades. Prior to obtaining an upgrade, Link can carry up to 100 rupees. There is no specific order to obtaining the wallets.

  • The first upgrade has a maximum capacity of 300 rupees, and it can be bought for 80 rupees at Stockwell's Shop.
  • The second upgrade has a maximum capacity of 500 rupees, and it is obtained by fusing Kinstones with Mayor Hagen.
  • The third and final upgrade has a maximum capacity of 999 rupees. Link can obtain it from the Great Butterfly Fairy in Minish Woods.

The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess[edit]

In The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, Link starts with a wallet that can hold up to 300 rupees (or 500 rupees in The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD). According to the pause menu description, Link had the wallet since his childhood. The Big Wallet and Giant Wallet return from the Nintendo 64 games, each retaining their role as the first and second upgrades. They can hold up to 600 and 1,000 rupees respectively (or 1,000 and 2,000 rupees in The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD).

In The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD, there is a third wallet upgrade, the Colossal Wallet, which holds up to 9,999 rupees. Link can obtain it by completing the amiibo dungeon, Cave of Shadows, but only if he has a Giant Wallet (otherwise the Colossal Wallet can be obtained from Agitha).

The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword[edit]

In The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, in addition to his base wallet, Link can purchase and store additional wallets in his Adventure Pouch and store them with Peatrice. Upgraded wallets can also be found, with the largest one, the Tycoon Wallet, being obtained from Batreaux.
