History

The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds

In The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds, Karat Crabs appear in Lorule around the Southern Ruins and the lake containing Turtle Rock. They act just like Sand Crabs, moving slowly forward and backward but very fast sideways. They are much stronger than Sand Crabs, however.

The Legend of Zelda: Tri Force Heroes

In The Legend of Zelda: Tri Force Heroes, Karat Crabs have an additional behavior and are depicted as desert creatures, appearing in the Dunes and the Desert Zone in the Den of Trials. They often hide underneath sand, with their position marked by conspicuous lumps moving around. They can be uncovered by the Gust Jar, though they will attempt to dig back under shortly thereafter. They are found out of the sand in Stone Corridors and in it in Gibdo Mausoleum.
