Zelda has appeared as a boss where her otherwise-lifeless body is being possessed by a Demon King.

History[edit]

The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess[edit]

“Both of you, faithless fools who would dare to take up arms against the king of light and shadow...”
Possessed Zelda, The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess

In The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, Zelda's body is possessed by Ganondorf as the first boss battle against him, called Ganon's Puppet: Zelda. This is at the top of Hyrule Castle's central tower, in the throne room, where Zelda's body was used as a decoration after using her life force to restore Midna from near-death. Prior to the battle, Midna attempts to prevent Ganondorf from entering Zelda, but she fails and is thrown unconscious out of the arena, which is then surrounded by barriers.

The possessed Zelda acts very similar to how Ganondorf and Phantom Ganon act in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, but with some light-based moves, used from a magic rapier. She floats far above Link, and attacks by summoning a triangle of light on the floor where Link stands, which erupts into energy shortly after. Sometimes, she swoops downward at Link with the rapier, curving around to try and hit him again if she misses. The third attack is a deflectable ball of light and electricity, which can be bounced between Link and her by attacking with the sword. If it hits the shield, it will be deflected in a random direction instead. The possessed Zelda attempts to return it as well, until one of the two messes up and is electrocuted by it. After a few hits from the energy balls, the possessed Zelda sinks to the ground and the barriers dissipate. Midna then uses the power of the Fused Shadows to squeeze Ganondorf out of Zelda's body, though she does not return to life until Ganon's defeat.

The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks[edit]

In The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks, the plot revolves around Zelda's spirit being separated from her body as a vessel for another Demon King, Malladus. Malladus manages to possess it at the top of the Tower of Spirits, and Link and Zelda later encounter the possessed Zelda atop the Demon Train in the Dark Realm. Her only attack is to shoot a laser when they get close enough, though Phantom Zelda is not affected by it. However, Chancellor Cole uses phantasmic Rats to take control of Phantom Zelda if they reach her, and the roof of the train moves back and forth in chunks. Once Phantom Zelda reaches her body, they begin scuffling in the air, and Link needs to shoot the possessed Zelda with the Bow of Light, causing Malladus to be removed.
