Medusas are square sculptures showing a wicked snakelike face with a large mammalian tongue. They can shoot projectiles from their mouths, acting as analogs to the stone statues from the original The Legend of Zelda, though unlike them, Medusas continue shooting even after all the normal enemies in the room have been defeated.
History
The Legend of Zelda: A Link to Past
In The Legend of Zelda: A Link to Past, Medusas appear throughout the Dark World dungeons, shooting fireballs in Link's direction. In Thieves' Town and Misery Mire, some are placed behind ornamental torches, making it look as though the torch is producing the fireball. A variation called the Yomo Medusa appears in the Swamp Palace, Misery Mire, and Ganon's Tower, shooting only in cardinal directions when Link swings his sword. In a dark room in Turtle Rock, certain non-shooting Medusas are used as the center blocks for fire bars.
The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds
In The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds, Medusas appear in Lorule, but are less common than before. Different Medusas shoot out balls of either fire or ice. Although indestructible, they can be briefly frozen with the Ice Rod.
