Yuga is an evil sorcerer from Lorule and the main antagonist of The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds. He resembles a flamboyant, feminine version of Ganondorf and is implied to be his Lorulean counterpart. Yuga is obsessed with beauty, though his vision on it seems to be based on how powerful each entity is. He has the ability to turn people into paintings and bring paintings to life, with his magic rod resembling a giant paintbrush.
History
The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds
In The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds, Yuga initially appears holding up the Sanctuary, where he kidnaps Ceres, a sage, and turns her into a framed painting while leaving the Captain trapped as graffiti on the wall. Link attempts to charge him, but Yuga merges into the wall, causing Link to crash and knock himself out. He is later encountered as the boss of the Eastern Palace, where he turns Osfala into a painting. In battle, he is capable of merging into walls, summoning lightning blasts from the walls (always in a cross pattern due to the room's octagonal shape), making blasts of fire travel along the walls, and creating trios of basic green soldiers to attack Link. When not in the walls, Yuga is vulnerable to sword slashes or arrows, briefly stunning him and opening him up for further attacks. After enough damage, he flies into a rage and begins attacking more frantically. After being further damaged enough, he gets annoyed at Link, using his magic to turn Link into a painting before leaving. However, Ravio's Bracelet absorbs the attack, allowing Link to leave the wall and henceforth be able to merge into them at will. However, Yuga still manages to take over Hyrule Castle, surrounding it in a barrier and scattering his soldiers across Hyrule.
Once Link manages to make his way inside Hyrule Castle, he finds Yuga accosting Princess Zelda on a staircase. He reveals he has captured all seven sages, which Zelda realizes must mean he plans on reviving Ganon. Yuga, however, completely ignores her and instead turns her into a painting as well. Upon seeing Link free from the wall, he gets angry and creates a group of green Sword Soldiers and red Spear Soldiers to attack him before continuing up the tower. When Link reaches him, he engages in battle again. This time, he summons two duplicates to confuse Link, who add their own attacks to his. Additionally, the room is a wide rectangle with two square areas of wall, giving the lightning and fire attacks a more dangerous range. Attacking any of the the three before they attack causes that one's addition to the group attack to be removed prematurely, giving Link more room. However, attacking a duplicate causes it to turn into a soldier. Once Yuga becomes angry, the soldiers in the battle are replaced with blue Sword Soldiers. Once attacked enough, Yuga becomes bored of the fight and moves further into the castle, leading Lnk to a fissure into Lorule.
At Lorule Castle, Yuga uses his eight paintings to revive Ganon before merging with him into Yuga Ganon, gaining the Triforce of Power as a result. Before he can do anything, he is restrained in black tar by Princess Hilda. He remains in this state for the duration of the game, until Hilda reveals she planned to have Hyrule's Triforce stolen and releases him to take the Triforce of Courage from Link. However, he instead turns her and the Triforce of Wisdom into a painting and reveals he had always planned to take the full Triforce for himself. Once Yuga Ganon is defeated, Hilda reveals that Yuga was the one who had found the initial fissure between worlds.
Hyrule Warriors Legends
In Hyrule Warriors Legends, Yuga is added as downloadable content in the A Link Between Worlds pack, with him and Ravio being the final warriors added. He attacks with a Picture Frame. He can be retroactively downloaded to the original Hyrule Warriors as well and is unlockable in the base version of Hyrule Warriors: Definitive Edition.
