The Flying Rooster, also known as Flying Cucco, Blue Cucco,[1] or simply Cucco[2], is a variant of Cucco that first appears in The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening and later The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons. They have the ability to fly and carry a person with them, and there are instances where Link must use them to get across a pit.
In The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, there is a blue-colored Cucco named Cojiro. It is the first game where Link can pick up normal Cuccos and hover while holding them, just as he can for Flying Roosters.

The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening DXIn The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening, there is one Flying Rooster. Its fossil remains are located in an underground area beneath the weathervane of Mabe Village. According to Old Man Ulrira, the Flying Rooster used to take the Mabe Village residents for a ride if they carried it above their head. If Link has learned to play the Frog's Song of Soul on his Ocarina, he can play it next to the Flying Rooster's fossil to revive it. After doing so, the Flying Rooster follows Link around the overworld, although it does not follow him into dungeons. Link can only fly a short distance with the Flying Rooster, although if the Power Bracelet is equipped, Link can fly with it until letting go.
Link is required to make use of the Flying Rooster's flight ability to reach the Bird Key in a cave of Tal Tal Mountain Range. There he must make use of the Flying Roster's flying ability to get across the pits. Link can optionally use the Flying Rooster to reach a Secret Seashell near Kanalet Castle. After Link completes Eagle's Tower, the Flying Rooster finds a new home in the Hen House. The keeper living there is thrilled to have the Flying Rooster. Earlier on, the keeper even tells Link that chickens once had the ability to fly.
In The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening DX, the Flying Rooster is blue. In the Nintendo Switch remake, the Flying Rooster was redesigned to have traits similar to other birds, such as the eyes a pigeon, the beak of a toucan, and the tip of its wings being light green.
The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons[edit]
In The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons, a few Flying Cuccos are located on Mt. Cucco. Unlike their debut appearance, Flying Cuccos do not follow Link. Holding on to a Flying Cucco allows Link to hover across the chasms of Mt. Cucco. A Flying Cucco is also required to reach the Spring Banana.
