Beetles are four-legged arthropod enemies that live in small holes in the ground. They scuttle slowly around and are fairly weak.

History[edit]

The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening[edit]

In The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening, Beetles only appear in a single screen of Ukuku Prairie near Kanalet Castle. An infinite number of them emerge one at a time from a hole in the ground before wandering slowly about. In the original game, they have a fairly nondescript appearance, but in the Nintendo Switch remake, they have slate blue bodies with a spike on top and a single yellow eye, giving them a somewhat Tektite-like appearance.

The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons/Ages[edit]

In both The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons and The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages, Beetles act mostly as they do in Link's Awakening, but are now usually dug up with the shovel. In the former game, Facade has an attack that causes four to drop from the ceiling.

The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap[edit]

In The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap, Beetles appear smaller than before and have a yellow spot or eye on their backs. They act as a parasitic nuisance in this game, grabbing onto Link and restricting his movement until he uses the sword. They can appear randomly from cut grass and bushes, upended rocks, and in areas dug with the Mole Mitts. In the wild, they appear with gray bodies, but red ones appear in the fight against Mazaal.
