Podoboos are a leaping, lava-dwelling fireball enemy debuting in the Mario franchise, where it is currently known as Lava Bubble. They appear in a few games of the The Legend of Zelda franchise as well, typically with the same basic behavior.

The Legend of Zelda series[edit]
The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening[edit]
In The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening, Podoboos appear jumping in the lava-filled tunnels of Turtle Rock. They solely appear in the side-scrolling areas of it. The boss of the dungeon, Hot Head, is similar to Podoboos. In the Nintendo Switch remake, they are among the only Mario enemies to not get a figurine.
The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons[edit]
In The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons, Podoboos have the same basic appearance and behavior as before. Once again, they appear in side-scrolling lava-filled areas of a late-game dungeon, this being the Subrosian Sword & Shield Maze. A relative called the Podoboo Tower appears more commonly.
The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages[edit]
In The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages, Podoboos are instead used as projectiles by the second boss, Head Thwomp. It may do this on its own accord, but also does so if it lands on its green face. Podoboo Towers also reappear.
The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords[edit]
In The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords, Podoboos, known as Bubbling Lava,[1] appear as rare enemies in possible higher level routes of Death Mountain and sections of Vaati's Palace based on it. In Four Swords Anniversary Edition, they also appear extremely commonly behind the Hero door of the Hero's Trial. They again bounce from lava, but now do so in a top-down camera perspective. Now, once they jump from the lava, they will bounce along the ground after a Link, disappearing after a large amount of bounces. They tend to come from small, lava-filled holes, and can do so infinitely. If one touches a Link, he will catch fire and run wildly. If it is hit, it will split into two tiny ones which ricochet around extremely fast. The boss of Death Mountain, Gōen, resembles a giant one and acts similar. Bubbling Lava's graphics exist in The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap, but are unused.
Cadence of Hyrule: Crypt of the NecroDancer featuring The Legend of Zelda[edit]
In Cadence of Hyrule: Crypt of the NecroDancer featuring The Legend of Zelda, Podoboos appear again as enemies. Rather than leaping out from lava, they simply hover over it and the ground, moving around walls akin to Sparks. They can only be destroyed via specific weapons like bombs. Some puzzles require the player Down Thrust off them to cross gaps.
