Dinolfos, also spelled as Dinofols and Dynalfos, are a stronger variety of Lizalfos with a more rugged, saurian appearance.

History

The Legend of Zelda series

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time

In The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Dinolfos is an enemy found solely in late-game dungeons. Compared to Lizalfos, they have longer swords, spikier bodies, and appear to have scratched-out right eyes. Their movement patterns and noises are identical to those of Lizalfos, but they have more health and defensive power. They solely appear in the optional Gerudo Training Ground as well as the first floor of Ganon's Tower. In Master Quest, they are additionally found in the Spirit Temple and the Light wing inside Ganon's Castle.

The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask

In The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask, Dinolfos appear without Lizalfos. All versions of the game using Nintendo 64 hardware spell the name as "Dinofols" in English, though in Majora's Mask 3D, this is changed to Dinolfos. Unlike most enemies to appear in both Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask, Dinolfos gain a new design, having both eyes, darker olive-colored scales, and long machete-like weapons. They have also gained the ability to breath fire, but otherwise have a weaker version of their previous behavior. A Dinolfos initially appears as a miniboss guarding the Hero's Bow in Woodfall Temple. Later, two appear as standard enemies in a room of the Snowhead Temple, with each dropping a Stray Fairy upon defeat. Unlike most basic enemies in the game, these do not respawn until a new three-day cycle. Three Dinolfos appear in the optional Secret Shrine as a miniboss representing the one in Woodfall Temple, and finally one appears in the miniboss-based optional trial on the Moon.

The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess

In The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, Dynalfos again act as stronger versions of Lizalfos, but are now also larger and more adept at blocking. They have roughly twice as much health as normal Lizalfos and their blocking ability makes Hidden Skills necessary to get past their defenses quickly, though swiftly sneaking up behind them and attacking or using the Ball and Chain from any direction also work. They additionally wear metal helmets and again wield machetes, though with shorter blades than before. They first appear in the Temple of Time, later appearing in corresponding floors of the Cave of Ordeals, the City in the Sky, and Hyrule Castle.

Hyrule Warriors

In Hyrule Warriors, Dinolfos with their Ocarina of Time 3D design (with an added gauntlet) appear as the stronger counterpart to Lizalfos, sharing the same punching and fire-breath abilities. They are quite rare and are introduced late in the main story, debuting in the Shining Beacon scenario at the end of the epilogue chapter. However, in the "Cia's Tale" side-story included as downloadable content in the original and the base versions of reissues, they appear quite sooner.

In Ganondorf's Return, Ganondorf recruits several Lizalfos and Dinolfos from Gerudo Desert. In the Cia scenario "The Dragon of the Caves," they are led by a larger Dinolfos Chieftain, who has more prominence in Hyrule Warriors Legends.
