Compasses are dungeon items that appear in several of The Legend of Zelda games. A compass is found in nearly every dungeon, usually in a Treasure Chest, and they only work in the dungeon that they are found in. Compasses work in conjunction with a Dungeon Map by showing where Treasure Chests and the boss room are located, and Link's current location. Compasses do not appear in The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword because their functionality is included within the Dungeon Maps.
In The Legend of Zelda, compasses are colored red, although it is green in one of its artworks. In several later games, compasses are colored blue. In The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap, they return to red and resemble their design from the first The Legend of Zelda.
In The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening, The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons, and The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages, a short jingle plays whenever Link enters a room with a Small Key.
In Hyrule Warriors, the Compass is present in Adventure Mode as an Item Card. In the Majora's Mask Pack, it is also available as a Summoning Gate called the 8-Bit Compass.
