Water Tektites, also known as Water Bugs,[1] are a species of giant green water strider that sometimes resembles Tektites.

History

The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past

In The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, Water Tektites always face the side and have a pair of red eyes. They are encountered only in the Swamp Palace, where they dart around in diagonal movements towards Link. Most pools with them have a total of three.

The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening

Game Boy
Game Boy Color

In The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening, Water Tektites always face the screen and have only a single eye, furthering the resemblance to Tektites. They appear in Angler's Tunnel and Catfish's Maw and still dart around diagonally, but now do so oblivious to Link rather than chasing him. A miniboss combining their traits with those of the Helmasaur also appears, called Hydrosoar. In The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening DX, their in-game sprites are green.

In the Nintendo Switch remake, Water Tektites use their design from the Nintendo 3DS games, but with added pads on the feet.

The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons/Ages

Water Tektite OoS-OoA sprite.png

In The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons and The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages, Water Tektites appear and behave the same way as in The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening. They appear in Spool Swamp and Natzu River in the former game and in Mermaid's Cave in the latter game.

The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds

In The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds, Water Tektites appear based on their original design, though the eyes have been replaced with giant lips and two small antennae have been added. They again appear in the Swamp Palace and act as they did originally, though they are less plentiful. They now face Link when pursuing him.

The Legend of Zelda: Tri Force Heroes

In The Legend of Zelda: Tri Force Heroes, Water Tektites appear as they do in A Link Between Worlds at the Riverside and the Flooded Zone of the Den of Trials. Through the Water Rod, it is possible to get them onto land, where they walk around slowly and weakly.
